People shot at newsroom building in Annapolis, Maryland

UPDATE: Five people have been killed and many more injured in the mass shooting reports CNN. The gunman, who is in custody, was found hiding beneath a desk. The weapon is described as a shotgun. 

According to the Associated Press multiple people have been reported as being shot at the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) tweeted out that they are responding to a shooting. 

Lt. Timothy Seipp of the Annapolis Police Department said there had been an "active shooter” at the building and that a subject is in custody reports USA Today.

Marc Limansky of the Anne Arundel County Police Department told the Associated Press the situation is “active and ongoing.”

“Absolutely devastated to learn of this tragedy in Annapolis," tweeted Gov. Larry Hogan. "Please, heed all warnings and stay away from the area. Praying for those at the scene and for our community."
