Melania Trump speaks up about deportation tactics.
First Lady Melania Trump had been missing from public view for a while last month after a surgical procedure, but she’s back in the spotlight and it doesn’t appear she’s too happy with the way her husband is handling families in immigration.
In the past six weeks over 2,000 migrant children have been detained and separated from their families. San Diego Gay and Lesbian News documented one story about a mother and her son who were forced to sleep on the floor and were separated from her husband.
The First Lady said in a statement on Sunday that the country should come together to mend the problems with immigration.
“Mrs. Trump hates to see children separated from their families and hopes both sides of the aisle can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform. She believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart,” said Stephanie Grisham, FLOTUS’ communications director, according to CNN.
The new policy was initiated by President Trump and his cabinet, but he holds Democrats accountable.
"Democrats can fix their forced family breakup at the Border by working with Republicans on new legislation, for a change!" he tweeted on Saturday. "This is why we need more Republicans elected in November. Democrats are good at only three things, High, High Crime and Obstruction. Sad!"
