You may live in one of the most beautiful states in the nation, but according to a U.S. News and World Report, you may not have the best quality of life.

The survey ranks states based on the quality of life, opportunities for residents, education, healthcare, economy, infrastructure, crime and corrections, and fiscal stability.

The above metrics were ranked by 30,000 survey takers as what is most important to their livelihoods.

Each metric was then ranked from 1 – 50. For example, California scored toward the top as far as the economy (#4) but fell all the way to the bottom on quality of life (#50).

Crime and Correction along with Education ranked in the middle.

Overall, California is ranked at number 32. Iowa took the #1 position, while Louisiana sunk to the bottom scoring close to 50 on all aspects.

"In addition to a healthy environment, a person's quality of life is largely a result of their interactions with those around them," U.S. News wrote. "Studies show that when people feel socially supported, they experience greater happiness, as well as physical and mental health."

Interestingly, California got a score of 47 for social environment This means community engagement, social support, and voter participation are some of the worst in the nation on average.
