The price cut is an effort to repeal the gas tax.
In an effort to repeal the California Gas Tax initiative, two North County gas stations dramatically cut their prices on gas today.
Although the one Mobil station in Encinitas has put their prices back to normal, there is another in Carlsbad which will sell gas for $1.99 per gallon until 6 pm tonight.
Drivers at the pump taking part in the price cuts can also sign a petition to repeal the gas tax.
Carl DeMaio, the chairman of Reform California and leader of the Gas Tax Repeal Initiative said, "If you eliminate the massive taxes and fees imposed by the politicians on California's gas, filling up for $1.99 should happen every day. We're appreciative that the owners of these gas stations are doing this, and we encourage voters to fill up not only their tanks, but help us fill up the signature blocks on the Gas Tax Repeal Petitions that we will have onsite."
On November 1, 2017, Californians became subject to an additional tax of 12.5 cents more per gallon (20 cents more for diesel) at the pump.
The Carlsbad Shell station will sell its gasoline for $1.99 a gallon until 6 pm tonight.
It is located at 2509 Palomar Airport Road.
As a matter of full disclosure, Hale Media Publisher Johnathan Hale is married to Carl DeMaio.
