An eye-opening video which shows the difference in gay generations has gone viral and it reveals the changes in the community over the last six decades.

English senior citizen Percy, 78, sits across from 13-year-old Louis and recalls the tumultuous times when homosexuals were persecuted and arrested.

“I think you’re so lucky the world has changed and you can just be yourself,” says Percy.

The elderly man conveys to the teen that when he was 16-years-old he had to sneak into clubs and creating aliases in order to get in.

Percy then explains that being gay in the UK could get you arrested even in the privacy of your own home.

“You always had a slight suspicion that something could go wrong so you were never 100% at ease,” says Percy.

Louis, shocked, responds, “Where you said you could get arrested, I never heard that before. I never thought police would knock on your door and come in and arrest you for being gay. It’s like a shock.

“It amazes me how they could even just say for loving someone, you could be arrested. That completely shocks me.”

Percy then makes it clear that the community needs to remain strong and promote strength through acceptance and love.

“Be true to yourself," says Percy. "Stand up for being gay and try to make people understand that the most important thing is that you can love somebody and it doesn’t matter who they are. Love is love.

“Try to get people to think beyond their own immediate sphere so we can all be neighbors in the world and not have enemies and to be supportive.”
