CNN is reporting that the United States has dropped an enormous non-nuclear bomb in Afghanistan today.

“the Mother of All Bombs,” or GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB) was dropped at 7 pm local time say sources.

The 21,600-pound device has GPS-guided munition and is America’s biggest non-nuclear weapon.

The MOAB was dropped from a MC-130 aircraft by the US Air Force Special Operations Command and its target was an ISIS cave complex. It also targeted personnel in the Achin district of the Nangarhar province reports military sources.

There is still no word yet on the damage done by the explosive.

Its use was authorized by Gen. John Nicholson, commander of US forces in Afghanistan and Gen. Joseph Votel, commander of US Central Command.

This is MOAB’s inaugural mission in battle and was developed during the Iraq War reports CNN.

This is a developing story.
