Chyna Doll Dupree's death brings the total of trans murders in the U.S. to six.
A popular performer who also happens to be transgender, Chyna Doll Dupree (AKA Chyna Gibson) was shot and killed in the streets of New Orleans East on Saturday.
The performer was visiting from Los Angeles to take part in Mardi Gras celebrations in Louisiana.
Police say Dupree was shot several times at approximately 8:30 pm, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her body was found between two parked cars at a local shopping center. People nearby told police they heard between eight to 10 gunshots.
An unidentified woman said Dupree was her niece and the performer was a well-known drag performer who has toured the country.
"A very loving person," the woman said. "She didn't do nothing to nobody."
This latest death brings the total of transgender homicides in the United States to six:

Jamie Lee Wounded Arrow – Sioux Falls (January 7), 28 years old
Sean Hake – Sharon, Pennsylvania (January 6), 23 years old
JoJo Striker – Toledo, Ohio (February 8), 23 years old
Chyna Gibson – New Orleans (February 25), 31 years old
