One Mission Hills couple bought a camera to catch the thief.
Residents in a Mission Hills neighborhood are hoping surveillance footage of a thief who helps himself to Amazon packages will assist police in catching the burglar.
Pat Giles who lives in the upscale neighborhood says the value of the contents inside the boxes isn’t what’s concerning, but that someone is helping themselves to them.
“It was not the monetary value that’s unsettling, of course," Pat Giles told ABC 10. "It’s the fact that someone’s walking up and stealing things."
Pat and her husband Bob have made Mission Hills their home for almost three decades and say porch poaching has only become a problem within the last year.
“And other neighbors are reporting the same thing,” Bob Giles said.
The robber has helped himself to many items, including a package which contained Bob’s medication.
“I take a very, very expensive drug,” Bob Giles said.
Tires of not knowing who was helping themselves to their stuff, Pat and Bob bought a security camera and sure enough the bandit struck again, but this time he was recorded.
Police told the news station that the thief caught in the video is indeed their suspect; he is seen getting out of a large pickup truck with an extended cab.
“The issue now is to maybe win one for the good guys,” Bob Giles said. “We’re going to look for you.”
If you recognize the man in the video you can call San Diego Police at 619-531-2000 or 858-484-3154
