A young man who was reportedly bullied at his Brisbane, Australia High School, died by suicide on Tuesday, November 22.

Thirteen-year-old Tyrone Unsworth’s grieving mother, Amanda Unsworth told The Courier Mail, he was relentlessly bullied at his school and she thinks it was the reason for the tragedy.

“He was a really feminine male, he loved fashion, he loved make-up and the boys always picked on him, calling him gay-boy, faggot, fairy; it was a constant thing from Year 5,” she said.

“He wanted to become a vet or designer when he was older and his favorite saying was ‘sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.”

She adds, “Obviously they ended up getting him.”

A few weeks ago, the young man was attacked by another student with a fence post. The attack landed him in the hospital and afterward he was too afraid to return to school.

Brisbane, the most populated city in the Australian state of Queensland, is somewhat more conservative than the rest of the nation.

A Roy Morgan Research report from 2010 shows that one-in-three people believe that homosexuality is immoral.

Tyrones’ high school principal Jacquinta Miller, denied knowing of any attacks against the 13-year-old at school, but sends her “deepest sympathies” to friends and family.

“Let me be very clear: no allegation of bullying against this young person was made to our school,” she said in a statement.

“Neither the student nor his family ever came to us to say there was a problem of any kind,” she adds.

“If they did, we absolutely would have stepped in.”

However the principal does acknowledge the incident with the fence post; that incident happened away from school property.

"The safety and well-being of everyone in our school is our highest priority and we do not tolerate bullying in any way, shape or form."

Many influential social media subscribers have weighed in on the issue, posting their condolences and sympathy to Tyrone's family.

"Another queer youth in Australia took their life after years of bullying. Tell me again how our fight for equality impedes on your rights?" @@macleanbrendan

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Unsworth's with their funeral costs.
