Police have taken one suspect into custody reports say.
One person is dead and three others hospitalized after a gunman opened fire in an Upstate New York gay nightclub early Thursday morning.
It happened about 2 am at The Rocks Bar located on Central Avenue in Albany, reports WNYT (ABC 10).
Police say the victims were two men and two women. One man died from his wounds, the other three suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They are expected to recover.
WTEN reports that police have arrested one man and are investigating surveillance footage taken the morning of the incident.
Police want to assure the public The Rocks Bar itself was not a specific target and the shootings appear to have been an isolated incident.
“The one thing we want to let members of our community members know, especially the members of our LGBT community know that this is not a random act, this bar was not targeted for any specific reason.” Steve Smith, a spokesperson for the Albany Police Department, told Time Warner Cable News.
The bar owner told Time Warner Cable News that the bar was not overly crowded at the time of the shootings.
A Thanksgiving Day event will go in as scheduled today on the bar side of the building.
