The victim suffered bruises, cuts and abrasions.
An elderly gay man in Sarasota, Fla., says he was attacked by another man because Donald Trump says it’s now okay to kill gays.
Seventy-five-year-old Chuck Redding says he was driving a friend home when he noticed an unidentified man in a blue Jeep tailing him.
“This guy was extremely close to me. And, I didn’t think anything of it other than it was a jerk that was following too close,” said Redding who became alarmed. “I knew then something was wrong.”
Redding says that he didn’t want the tailgating stalker to know where he lived and thus parked his car in front of a friend’s house, where the attacker emerged from his vehicle and approached the driver-side window and pounded on it.
“He yanked the door open, dragged me out, ripped my shirt. I was on the pavement,” said Redding.
“He kept saying, ‘You know my new president says we can kill all you faggots now."
LGBTQ Nation reported on this story and refers to the local WFTS-TV segment (see below) in which the victim says he was targeted because of the pro-LGBT decals he has applied to his car.
His injuries include a bruised arm, a swollen hand with cuts and abrasions throughout his body. His toenail was also nearly ripped off.
“It’s absolutely horrendous,” Redding said in the ABC broadcast.
The victim says he is an out gay man and has never been attacked with such veracity and will now apply for a conceal carry license.
“If I can carry a weapon in my waistband, so that it can be seen at least, maybe these people will think different,” Redding told WFTS.
Redding filed a report with Sarasota County deputies who are now investigating the incident.
