The woman was arrested and heard in court on Thursday.
LAS VEGAS, Nevada, -- A woman who allegedly set fire to the Las Vegas LGBT Center on Saturday night was arrested by police and per the report she received instruction to set the place ablaze from Oprah Winfrey.
Grewndolyn Glancey, 21 (left), is charged with first-degree arson according to the Metropolitan Police department.
A surveillance video taken from the crime scene shows Glancey intentionally setting fires at two locations, one at 401 S. Maryland Parkway, the address of the LGBT Center.
When taken into custody police documented that Glancey’s motives were that the LGBT community “needed to pay for their sins.”
The alleged arsonist was taken to Valley Hospital Medical Center’s psychiatric hold facility; authorities believed she was suicidal.
Michael Dimengo, Las Vegas LGBT Center’s CEO said there was only minor damage.
“It was a frightening experience, but we pride ourselves on being a safe space for the individuals who come here,” he said on Wednesday. “We will do our best to maintain that safety.”
The suspect was released from psychiatric hold and transferred to Clark County Detention Center. Her hearing was held on Thursday, Oct. 27.
