Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom's "Safety for All" initiative has LGBT Second Amendment supporters firing back.
A new video from The Coalition for Civil Liberties (CCL) takes another aim at California Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom’s (D) recent “Safety for All” initiative that hopes to restrict firearms and ammunition in the Golden State.
A previous black-and-white video produced by the CCL portrayed a lone woman in a dark parking garage being approached by a menacing figure intending to do her harm.
In the ad, the woman initially pulls a gun from her purse to face the assailant head-on, only to have it disappear within her grasp, symbolizing the impact of what might happen if Newson’s initiative is passed.
The new video addresses Newsom’s recent remarks to the LGBT community, especially gun advocate and trans woman Nikki Stallard who asked publicly of Newsom’s restrictive proposal, “If Gavin Newsom gets this passed, how will transgender women like me be able to protect ourselves?”
Newsom’s response to her question was less than supportive, accusing the National Rifle Association (NRA) of using the LGBT community against him, “Using the Trans community to fight their battle of lies is arguably one of the most disgusting things they've ever done.”
The new CCL video titled "It Doesn't Matter Who You Are," is almost an exact copy of the previous one, with a slight alteration; the victim is a member of the LGBT community.
Newsom’s “Safety for All” act includes background checks for all ammunition purchases, licensing for ammunition dealers and the outlawing of all magazines capable of holding ten rounds or more.
Newsom is standing firm in his gun control ideas. Back in October the former mayor of San Francisco said he was ready to fight and, “If you're going to do something, go big.”
Meanwhile organizations such as The San Francisco Police Officers Organization, The Gun Owners of California and The Law Enforcement Alliance of America, to name a few, have joined forces with the CCL against Newsom.
