Lesbian news anchor Robin Roberts is on the cover of Mississippi tourism guide.
My good friend David Taffet over at the Dallas Voice noticed something very ironic about the new Mississippi Tourism Guide; talk show host and lesbian Robin Roberts of “Good Morning America” is their cover model this month.
Roberts grew up in Pass Christian, Mississippi and came out in 2013, publically recognizing her partner Amber Laign after Roberts’ battle with breast cancer and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). She has since moved away to become the anchor of ABC’s Good Morning America.
Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant recently made into law measures that allow businesses to deny services to LGBT people because of deeply held religious beliefs. The Magnolia State also doesn’t want transgender men and women using restrooms that don’t correlate with their biological gender.
It is curious then why the publishers would want an out lesbian to pitch their state on the cover of its official tourism guide. Maybe Mississippi doesn't want to serve the gays and lesbians living with them, but they would like those considering a visit to spend lots of their hard earned money without legal protections, then leave.
