SAN DIEGO, Hillcrest - Creator and food innovator James Markham of MOD Pizza and Pieology has announced to SDGLN that his new endeavor Rolled Up will open today. This sushi-meets-burrito concept combines Japanese and Mexican cuisine into one flavorful combination.
Markham is known for his successful and creative culinary designs with his Project Pie now available in over 20 locations worldwide and more opening this coming year.
Rolled Up, located on Fourth Avenue in Hillcrest, is another contemporary and inventive way to enjoy impromptu dining with a casual and ethnic flair.
Menu items are truly inspired keeping with Markham’s out-of-the-box thinking and original concepts. Where else can you get Asian Nachos?
Other items include the Japanese Moooooo, filled with saki carne asada, roasted red peppers, corn salsa, and ginger Thai guacamole served with blue corn chips.
Or the Crunchy Little Guy made with Shrimp Tempura, crab, seasoned cabbage, Persian Cucumber, and Ginger Thai guacamole.
Markham says that food ideas can be made into reality with the help of interior designers, chefs and consultants, but he asks if those people can really convey the DNA of what you are creating.
“I will give you the answer,” he told SDGLN, “They cant. A restaurant, its food, its vibe – that feeling you get when you walk in has to be authentic, it can’t be store bought.”
He also says that his ideas are not just silly “what-ifs,” they are forged with ingredients far beyond what is actually being put into the dishes.
“It’s about carefully crafting the elements in the food, the design and cultivating a culture,” he said. “That’s what we did at Rolled Up to make it a very cool place.”
Situated in one of Hillcrest’s best culinary and night club intersections on University and Fourth, Rolled Up will certainly add to the neighborhood’s uniquely diverse and dining culture.
Pricing is between $9 and $11, and beverages range from a variety of Boylan's fountain sodas to flavored seltzers.
Rolled Up is located at 3884 4th Ave. San Diego, Ca 92103.
Hours of Operation: Monday through Thursday from 11 am to 9 pm; Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 11 pm, and Sunday from 11 am to 8 pm.
