California GOP Chairman Jim Brulte to speak at September Log Cabin Republicans meeting

SAN DIEGO -- California GOP State Chairman Jim Brulte will be featured at the Sept. 18 meeting of the Log Cabin Republicans of San Diego.

The chapter will also honor San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis at the event, and radio talk show host LaDona Harvey will be the evening's emcee.

Community members are invited to attend the meeting to mix, mingle, see the award presentation and hear updates about club business and pressing issues.

The adjoining Lambda Archives will also be open during the event, displaying its current exhibit featuring the last 20 years of San Diego's openly-LGBT elected officials.

A mixer will begin at 5:30 pm, with speakers at 6:15 pm. The free event will be held at Diversionary Theatre, located at 4545 Park Blvd. in University Heights. Complimentary food and a cash bar will be available.

More about Jim Brulte

Jim Brulte served 14 years in the California Legislature, most recently as Senate Republican Leader, before leaving office to join California Strategies. During that time, he developed a national reputation as a leader, and prior to the election of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, was described as "arguably the most powerful elected Republican in California." He was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as a member of the board of visitors of the U.S. Naval Academy. He was also appointed by Schwarzenegger as a member of the Performance Review Committee.

Brulte joined California Strategies in 2004 as a partner and heads the Inland Empire office, the region where he grew up and later represented in the Legislature. During his tenure in office, Brulte focused his efforts on education, regulatory reform, crime reduction and common-sense legislation to improve California's business climate. His measures to reform the workers' compensation and welfare systems have saved billions of dollars for both California taxpayers and California's business community.

In addition to his political expertise, Brulte is also an expert on fiscal issues and was the GOP's lead negotiator for California's 80+ billion dollar budget negotiations.

Brulte graduated with a B.A. from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. In 1974, Brulte joined the California Air National Guard where he was later honored as Outstanding Airman of the Year for the United States and its territories.

District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis is being honored as a leader and role model for the LGBT community.

Dumanis has earned a national reputation as a law enforcement leader and innovator. She took office in 2003 and is the first woman to serve as District Attorney for San Diego County. With public safety as her top priority, her office has maintained a 94% conviction rate. Dumanis has focused on crime prevention, stopping the revolving door to prison, and helping victims. She has also increased transparency and public access to the DA's Office.

DA Dumanis has never wavered in her support of community and civic organizations. She serves on the California State Bar Association Board of Governors, is president of the California District Attorneys Association, on the board of the National District Attorneys Association, is a commissioner for California Peace Officers Standards and Training, a member of the San Diego County Police Chiefs and Sheriff's Association, an Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association Member, a past president of the Lawyers Club of San Diego, served on the board of directors of the San Diego Bar Association and taught ethics at the University Of San Diego School Of Law.

San Diego radio listeners have become very familiar with LaDona on KOGO.

Harvey is a San Diego broadcast veteran, having been a radio news personality and anchor with KOGO since 1998. She won several awards from the Society of Professional Journalist and the San Diego Press Club. Harvey also is a weekly guest on TalkSport Radio, a national station covering the United Kingdom, and on Radio4 in Brisbane, Australia.

In her personal life, she gives back to her community by participating in the annual Arthritis Foundation Walk each year and donates her time and blood to the annual San Diego Chargers Blood Drive and is a member of the Gallon Club at the San Diego Blood Bank. She has helped raise money for local charities and she is a long-time volunteer with the Feral Cat Coalition and supports the San Diego Animal Support Foundation.
