SAN DIEGO -- The board of directors of San Diego LGBT Pride announced today that Stephen Whitburn will continue to head the organization as its general manager. Whitburn had held the position in an interim capacity since January.
“This is a seamless transition for us,” board co-chair Joe Mayer said. “For several months, Stephen has been leading the team preparing for this year’s Pride Weekend, and we are excited about how the celebration is coming together.”
San Diego Pride’s previous director, Dwayne Crenshaw, initially said he was taking a leave of absence to run for a seat on the San Diego City Council. Crenshaw made it into a runoff election, which he lost Tuesday. Pride officials said today that Crenshaw has departed the organization.
“We congratulate Dwayne on his strong candidacy as a visible member of the LGBT community,” board co-chair Ebony Aldridge said, “and we congratulate Myrtle Cole on her election to the seat.”
San Diego Pride will be held the weekend of July 12-14 beginning with the rally and the block party on Friday night, the parade on Saturday, and the festival both Saturday and Sunday. An estimated quarter-million people will participate in this year’s festivities.
