LAKESIDE, Calif. – Two San Diego County deputies and a suspect were wounded today during a midday shooting near El Capitan High School, authorities say.
The high school and other campuses near the shooting scene were temporarily on lockdown as a precaution, but that was lifted by 1:15 pm.
The shooting occurred at Maplewood Apartment complex on Maplewood Street near Ashwood Street after authorities responded to call about child sexual abuse allegations, according to NBC 7 News. A woman who identified herself to NBC 7 News as the suspect's girlfriend said she found disturbing photos involving the suspect and her two 8-year-old daughters, and called authorities earlier this morning. Authorities who investigate sexual abuse cases were at the scene at the time of the shooting, according to the woman and the TV station.
The TV station reported that 30 to 40 police cars from various nearby cities rushed to the shooting scene as well as a SWAT team.
The deputies were transported by ambulance to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Kearny Mesa. Their conditions are unknown, and Sheriff Bill Gore rushed to the hospital.
The suspect was taken to Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest.
The Sheriff's Department said about 1:30 pm that the situation was under control and that no suspects were on the loose.
Resident Jodi Davis lives across the street where the shooting occurred and told NBC 7 that the police ordered her and her neighbors back into their apartments.
“I heard a lot of shots being fired. Multiple shots, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,” she said. “At least 12 to 18 shots being fired....I said 'Oh my gosh those are gunshots!'"
