CHARLOTTE, N.C. — First Lady Michelle Obama will speak at a special luncheon presented by several national and local LGBT organizations on Wednesday.

The event, sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign, National Stonewall Democrats, the National Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, Equality North Carolina and the DNC’s LGBT caucus, is slated for Sept. 5 at Noon at the Marriott Center City in Uptown Charlotte. The first lady will speak around 12:40 p.m.

National Stonewall Democrats Executive Director Jerame Davis welcomed the news of Obama’s appearance.

“Michelle Obama is an inspiring and amazing woman and we couldn’t ask for a speaker who is more supportive of our issues,” said in a written statement to qnotes. “As the President himself said when he came out in favor of the freedom to marry, his family — including his daughters and the First Lady — played a pivotal role in pushing him toward speaking out for marriage equality.”

Registration for the luncheon has already closed. Media coverage of the event will be provided by pooled press.
