Lesbian couple married in Coronado found dead in suspected murder-suicide

CORONADO, Calif. – A lesbian couple who married in Coronado on Sept. 22, 2007, were found dead Tuesday in their home in Phoenix, and authorities are calling it a murder-suicide.

Dallas Augustine, 32, shot to death her 50-year-old wife, Jessie McCaskill, then used the weapon on herself, Phoenix police told the media.

Augustine is the daughter of Nevada politician Kathy Augustine, who was murdered by her husband Chaz Higgs in 2006 in Reno.

A wedding photo of the lesbian couple posted on Facebook shows the historical landmark Hotel del Coronado in the background. Augustine was wearing a black tuxedo and McCaskill was wearing a white dress.

Since that happy occasion, things apparently changed. Family and friends told the media that the couple’s relationship had soured, and police said that one of the women had packed her bags and was preparing to move out at the time of the double shooting.

Arizona Department of Corrections officials said that Augustine worked there as an officer.

After her mother’s murder, Augustine ran for a seat in the Nevada Assembly in 2008, but lost.
