Equality California leader to be honored with 2012 Ally for Justice Award

SAN FRANCISCO -- The National LGBT Bar Association will honor Equality California interim executive director Laurie Hasencamp with its 2012 Ally for Justice Award.

She will receive the award at the American Bar Association annual meeting in Chicago on Aug. 3.

“Laurie is a tireless and passionate advocate on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community,” said Clarissa Figioun, Equality California board president. “This award is fitting recognition of that work and we congratulate her on this well-deserved honor.”

Hasencamp has served as interim executive director since February 2012. She has serves on the Lambda Legal board of directors, GLSEN's National Leadership Council, the Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy Founders and Legal Councils, The Serra Project board of directors and the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation, among many others.

She has been recognized by numerous organizations for her commitment to social justice and to achieving LGBT equality. In 2008 she received a Women of Distinction award from USC as a community leader; in 2011, she received the Los Angeles Lesbian & Gay Lawyers Association Co-Presidents Award and the City of West Hollywood Paul Starke Warrior Award for her community service work in the LGBT and HIV/AIDS communities.
