SAN DIEGO – The wonderfully twisted mind of director John Waters has produced a cult following for his many movies, including at FilmOut San Diego.
FilmOut’s monthly screening in April will be another John Waters’ classic, “Cry-Baby” (1990), starring a young Johnny Depp who had just achieved teeny-bopper stardom on the hit TV series, “21 Jump Street.”
“Cry-Baby” will be shown at 7 pm Wednesday, April 18, at the historic Birch North Park Theatre, 2891 University Ave., San Diego, CA 92104. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased HERE. The theater entrance is on 29th Street.
Depp sizzles on the screen in this outrageous musical comedy co-starring Amy Locane, Traci Lords, Polly Bergen, Susan Tyrrell, Iggy Pop and Ricki Lake. It’s 1954 and the scandalous rockabilly music a la Elvis Presley is sweeping across the land.
Depp plays the irresistible bad boy with a heart of gold, from the wrong side of the tracks, who possesses the remarkable ability to shed a single tear that drives girls wild.
Locane plays Allison, a rich girl who can’t resist the charms of the dreamy “juvie” and his forbidden world of rockabilly music, “supped up” cars and faster women. Trouble brews when Allison’s “square” boyfriend vows revenge.
