San Diego mayoral candidates to speak to LGBT community Wednesday night at The Center

SAN DIEGO -- A coalition of organizations will host an LGBT Mayoral Candidate Forum on Wednesday, March 28, at The San Diego LGBT Community Center.

All four of the major candidates in the San Diego mayor's race -- Carl DeMaio, Bonnie Dumanis, Bob Filner and Nathan Fletcher -- are expected to participate in the forum.

The event will provide the candidates with an opportunity to discuss issues facing LGBT San Diegans and answer questions about their plans if elected to the office.

The four candidates are vying to replace Mayor Jerry Sanders, who will term out of office at the end of the year. A primary election will be held June 5, in which the top two vote-getters, regardless of party affiliation, will likely advance to the general election on Nov. 6. However, if a candidate receives at least 50.1% of the votes during the primary election, that person will win the race outright at the time.

Today at 6:30 pm, the mayoral candidates will participate in a forum focusing on issues of importance to the nonprofit and philanthropic sector at the Old Globe Theater.

The public is welcome to Wednesday's forum, which will begin at 6 pm.

The Center is located at 3909 Centre St. in Hillcrest.
