PFLAG supporters protest at Temecula church over anti-gay programs | VIDEO

TEMECULA, Calif. – Gay rights supporters plan to continue their protests at a Temecula church that promotes “ex-gay therapy” and other anti-gay programs.

The next protest is scheduled for 9 am Saturday, March 10, at Rancho Community Church on Temecula Parkway. That’s when Alan Chambers, president of the anti-gay group Exodus International, is scheduled to speak at the church.

Exodus International is almost universally condemned for promoting junk science and false therapy by all major psychological associations. Critics say the non-profit group has damaged the lives of thousands of young gay men and lesbians by falsely claiming to offer “freedom from homosexuality through the power of Jesus Christ.”

Groups like Truth Wins Out track Exodus International to expose its fraudulent claims.

On Sunday, March 4, more than a dozen members of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) Temecula Valley marched in front of the church to protest the church’s Path of Grace group, which claims to help men and women struggling with same-sex attraction. The groups meets at 6:30 pm Thursdays, according to the church’s website.

PFLAG protesters spoke with the North County Times about the Path of Grace group. Nicole Duca, vice president of the local PFLAG chapter, said the group’s mission is “extremely damaging to people who are of the LGBT community.” She also accused the group of comparing homosexuality to alcoholism, a condition that can be managed, or dismissing sexual orientation as being a “lifestyle choice.”

"It's not like choosing to live as a bohemian or a jet-setter," Duca said. "It's a sexual orientation."

Duca stressed that PFLAG was not bashing the church, just the anti-gay programs.

"We just don't like this program from the LGBT community," she said, adding that the people running the program aren't qualified to provide therapy. "If someone actually is struggling, they should be going to a professional."
