SAN DIEGO – FilmOut San Diego’s 13th annual LGBT Film Festival kicks off tonight with the Opening Night selections and after-party.
Casper Andreas, director of tonight’s main feature “Going Down In La-La Land,” will be in town with his stars Matthew Ludwinski and Allison Lane and co-producer John Corboy for the 7:30 pm showing at the historical Birch North Park Theatre.
Andreas and his entourage will also participate in the after-party starting around 10 pm at the Top of the Park in Hillcrest.
“Going Down In La-La Land” is a gay spin on the classic tale of Hollywood where an ambitious young man named Adam (Ludwinski) heads West to find fame and fortune, only to be sidetracked and seduced by down-and-out directors, washed-up starlets and meth addicts. Adam is lured into the steamy underworld of gay porn and prostitution in Andreas’ rewrite of Andy Zeffer’s novel.
The opening night movie will be paired with a 20-minute short, “Go-Go Reject,” directed by Michael J. Saul and starring Heath Daniels. The short is about a skinny, naïve go-go dancer who meets with unexpected rejection when he attempts to fulfill his childhood “Flashdance” fantasy.
"Go-Go Reject" director Michael Saul, actor/writer/producer Heath Daniels, actor Iva Turner and production assistant Byron Lane will attend tonight's screening and the Opening Night party.
Tickets to the opening night, always the glamour event of any film festival, plus the after-party at Top of the Park cost $30.
FilmOut San Diego’s 13th annual LGBT Film Festival will be conducted over two weekends: Aug. 19-21 and Aug. 26-28.
Almost 60 films and shorts will be shown at the historical Birch North Park Theatre.
