OCEANSIDE -- For the second year in a row, the North County LGBT Coalition will take part in the Oceaside Freedom Parade, an annual tradition in the heavily military populated city in north San Diego County.
This year's parade, which kicks off at 10 am on Saturday, July 2, will celebrate "The Spirit of Freedom" as this year's theme. Parade organizers are expecting thousands of people, military and civilian alike, to line South Coast Highway to watch the contingents pass by.
Parade entries include a number of floats, bands, walking groups, cars and others. Organizers have also recently confirmed that the 1st Division Marine Band will also take part in this year's 18th annual event.
The North County LGBT Coalition encourages community members to join them in the parade as they hope to promote visibility of the LGBT community and their organization. Those who walk in the parade should plan on participating until about 12 noon.
The parade kicks off in front of the 101 Cafe located on Coast Highway at Wisconsin Avenue and travels along Coast Highway to Oceanside City Hall.
The parade can be viewed from sidewalks along the entire route and spectators are encouraged to bring folding chairs.
