SAN DIEGO _ This Valentine’s weekend, City Councilman Todd Gloria is asking residents to show some love for one of the community’s important assets, Stepping Stone of San Diego.
Gloria is asking for donations to be made in the name of loved ones.
Despite many challenges, which include massive state budget cuts, Stepping Stone has continued to deliver high quality and affordable treatment programs for people seeking recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. The staff, volunteers and board of directors are able to do this because of the generous support of caring individuals, Gloria said.
Stepping Stone provides services regardless of a client’s ability to pay for treatment.
The agency serves all San Diegans, but especially members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. These individuals still can experience discrimination at other treatment programs and often have been alienated from their family due to their sexual orientation or identity, Gloria said.
Public support allows the agency to continue its holistic approach to treatment and provide clients with additional services such as health-care referrals, access to mental health professionals, HIV/AIDS case management, temporary housing, meal/transportation assistance and more.
Gifts are tax-deductible. Visit www.steppingstonesd.org or mail donations to Stepping Stone of San Diego, 3969 Fourth Ave., Suite 201, San Diego, CA 92103. For more information, call Daniel Bess at (619) 278-0777, Ext. 104.
