New employees have more than 80 years of combined experience
SAN DIEGO _ San Diego Gay & Lesbian News (SDGLN), San Diego’s No. 1 read LGBT news source, has hired four staffers with more than 80 years of combined experience.
They will help to further position SDGLN toward its projected target growth in 2010.
Ken Williams, Associate Editor
Williams is veteran newsman who has worked at major metropolitan newspapers, including The San Diego Union-Tribune and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
As an editor, writer, columnist and critic, Williams brings a diverse set of job skills to SDGLN.
In Fort Worth, Williams served as the newspaper’s liaison for the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association’s national convention in Dallas, where he led two panel discussions and helped develop the official convention program. He represented the copy desk on the paper’s Diversity Committee, monitoring coverage of minorities in photos and articles, and striving to achieve a goal of a more balanced, community-inclusive coverage.
In Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, Fla., where he was a film and theater critic, he was chairman of the board of directors of the Moretti Arts Awards for seven years.
In his private life, Williams enjoys the company of his canine companions, Louie and Lucy, and roots religiously for the Miami Dolphins.
Ken St. Pierre, Director of Sales and Development
St. Pierre has a longstanding reputation as a community activist and civil-rights supporter.
From 2006 to 2010, he has served San Diego’s LGBT community through his work at The Center and most recently San Diego Pride. He also worked with Servicemembers Legal Defense Network for two years in the early part of the decade.
St. Pierre has been the creative force behind many innovative community fundraisers and events, such as San Diego Pride's Ambassador of Pride Program, the Milk Money Campaign and SLDN’s Momentum on the Midway dance party.
St. Pierre has also worked as a professional fundraiser for a myriad of organizations including San Diego Pride, The Center’s Gala and Annual Women’s Night, Dining Out For Life, AIDS Walk and The Equality Torch Relay. In 2009, St. Pierre received a Nicky Award for “outstanding male personality”.
Katie Wooley, Account Executive
Katie Wooley is originally from Orlando, Fla., but has also lived in Los Angeles and Chicago before recently making her home in San Diego.
During her 12 years in Chicago she received a BA from the University of Illinois at Chicago in business management and urban planning.
For more than 20 years she has been involved in the creative worlds of marketing, design, advertising, photography and trade shows, and has mastered the craft of facilitating client exposure through print, web and outdoor media campaigns. She has established relationships with Fortune 500 companies such as Kraft, Chicago Bulls, Walt Disney World, Playboy and the Darden Corp. by providing and servicing their marketing needs.
Wooley lives in Hillcrest with her beloved dog, Brandi.
Robert Corea, Promotions Coordinator, Nightlife Correspondent
After a stint of living in Spain (and partying throughout Europe), Corea has joined the Hale Media family as a Hale Media promotions coordinator and SDGLN nightlife correspondent.
A die-hard adventurer, the home-grown Californian and soon-to-be UCSD alum has experience in local and international markets. Correa previously worked for 944 Magazine, Warner Music Group and several Southern California radio stations.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have Williams, St. Pierre, Wooley and Corea join our team,” SDGLN Publisher Johnathan Hale said. “They represent SDGLN’s commitment to our continued growth and will help us reach the very aggressive goals we have set out for 2010 and beyond.”
