(SAN DIEGO) San Diego’s crown jewel, Balboa Park, has been named one of the country’s best municipal parks by Forbes Magazine. The recognition was given in November as part of its “America’s Best City Parks” feature
“Balboa Park is a source of great pride for all San Diegans; a world-renowned gem that reflects much of San Diego’s beauty and history,” said Mayor Jerry Sanders. “Being at the top of the Forbes list is an honor for the entire region,” he said. “It is also a testament to the hard-work and commitment to excellence put forth by our Park and Recreation Department Director, Stacey LoMedico, and her staff.”
Forbes praised Balboa Park for its Spanish-Baroque Revival structures and its wide range of attractions, including the San Diego Zoo, museums, flower gardens and theaters.
Balboa Park was among 11 other parks mentioned including, New York City’s Central Park, Patterson Park in Baltimore and Millennium Park in Chicago.
