Adam Lambert bestows legendary “American Idol” KISS costume to Hard Rock Hotel San Diego

(SAN DIEGO) Following the release of his highly-anticipated debut album, “For Your Entertainment,” San Diego native Adam Lambert yesterday dedicated his legendary, KISS-inspired costume from the “American Idol” Season 8 Finale to Hard Rock Hotel San Diego’s extensive rock memorabilia collection. Lambert earned a cult-following as first runner-up on the hit FOX reality show.

Surrounded by his friends, family, and a legion of screaming fans, Lambert joined the ranks of Madonna, and Elvis, by bestowing his most over-the-top costume to date to the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, to be preserved for generations of fans to come.

“Adam is a hometown hero for us and his costume will be on display on the first floor of Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, among the likes of Madonna, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix,” said Matt Greene, General Manager. “The support for Adam is strong in San Diego and we are honored and privileged to have him here today.”

Lambert donned the elaborate rocker outfit, complete with caged wings, during his performance with KISS band members on one of the most talked about finales in “American Idol’s” history. During the red-carpet event in San Diego, Lambert signed autographs, met with fans, and discussed the motivation behind his best-selling debut, “For Your Entertainment,” which, according to Billboard.com, sold nearly 225,000 units in its first week.

“It’s obviously quite an honor,” said Lambert. “I’m a new kid on the block, so I’m just excited to be asked. I hope people get a kick out of seeing it.”

Since the show’s finale, he has toured the country with the other top ten finalists and simultaneously worked on his debut album, released on Nov. 23. The record's first single immediately catapulted to number four on iTunes. Lambert characterizes the album as “a pop-rock record that pays homage to the great classic and glam rock of the ’70s, both vocally and melodically and some of the instrumentation feels like that, but it’s produced sonically in a very modern current way.”

Hard Rock Hotel San Diego’s current display of memorabilia includes pieces from Elvis Presley, Madonna, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Roger Daltrey, Janis Joplin and Elton John and the hotel is very discretionary when acquiring new memorabilia. Proud of their hometown star and confident in his talent, longevity and future rock legend status, the hotel has carved out a prime location on the first floor of the property for the costume’s home.
