Washington Blade, The Houston Voice, The South Florida Blade, David Atlanta magazine and 411 Magazine all close their doors forever
Gay newspapers in several United States cities, including The Washington Blade, shut down on Monday, as the company that owned them, Window Media, abruptly went out of business. Window Media had been in serious financial trouble, but employees said they had expected a reorganization or sale — not a liquidation.
Employees were informed of this decision as they came to work, via a note left on the door that read:
"It is with great regret that we must inform you that effective immediately, the operations of Window Media LLC and Unite Media LLC have closed down."
