Women's Softball World Series comes to San Diego in August

SAN DIEGO -- In August, an expected 75 competitive women's softball teams are expected to descend upon San Diego when the Amateur Sports Alliance of North America (ASANA) holds its annual Softball World Series here.

Called "San Diego Happens: ASANA 2012," the yearly championship tournament will take place August 21-25, 2012.

Games will be held at both the Poway Sportsplex, the primary fields used by the local America's Finest City Softball League (AFCSL) for over a decade, and its new sister location, the brand new Santee Sportsplex, which opened in 2010 and is now also used by AFCSL.

The AFCSL expects to send several teams to the championship.

To kick-off the promotional drive leading up to the world series tournament, ASANA is offering a Facebook "Like us" contest.

"We are finding people are checking their Facebook more often than they check our website or even their own email," said Tournament Director Dani Goodlett in a released statement. "As a result, we’ve chosen to make our Facebook page the main artery for the flow of information."

To help facilitate this flow of information, they are encouraging players, coaches and supporters to get involved through a contest.

To enter the contest, browse over to ASANA's Facebook page and click LIKE. To be counted as a new user, they must write a greeting on the ASANA wall, using the phrase "I am a new user from San Diego."

The city with the most LIKES will receive $100 for their local league.

On June 15, ASANA will count how many new fans they've received from each city and announce the winning city on Facebook.

ASANA is the largest adult women’s softball organization in the United States and serves primarily lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and heterosexual women who wish to play softball in a warm and welcoming environment.
