Boot~ique: How to be fit in your 40's and 50's

If you are like most women, you want to look your best at all times.

Sure, we all have those instances where we run out to the store in sweats and a t-shirt, but the overall goal is to look great even in that attire.

It's been said that "with age comes wisdom," and that certainly applies to staying fit and healthy.

Just look are at the celebrities in their 40’s and 50’s who have taken being fit and looking great to another level.

Women like Madonna, Ashley Judd, Halle Berry, Courtney Cox and others seem to have found the fountain of youth.

Luckily, it doesn't take a small miracle or a fortune to look your best at any age.

Staying hydrated is a perfect way to keep yourself looking great at any age, but water isn't the only game in town to make sure you stay well hydrated. Coconut water is a tasty alternative to plain water.

Coconut water is nature's own sports drink, because it contains electrolytes that work to help your body repair after a taxing workout.

Looking for an innovative workout to add to your existing routine?

Try barre, a ballet-centered workout that also includes pilates and yoga. The workout is intense and it's still a rarity in many locales. If you can't find barre instruction in your city, try something unique to your locale.

In San Diego, the beach provides plenty of free access to a variety of activities. Swimming, surfing, running along the beach; all things you can do (for free) to mix up your workout routine.

Don't be a one-note workout queen. If you love Zumba, make it a staple of your exercise program but add some other classes or exercises to ensure you get a well-rounded workout. Adding variety to your workout sets is a fun way to maintain your health. Also, the more interest you have in your workouts, the more you'll be sure to stick with it; ensuring you stay healthy and look great for years to come.

When training and adding spice to your exercise routine, remember that warming up and cooling down with stretches are an important part of any workout program to prevent injury.

Although you may feel young, you have to keep in mind that as your body ages, you may become more prone to injury. Being fit and in shape are important, but you always want to keep safety first. While being forever young in age isn't possible, it is certainly possible to train your body to keep you young physically and in spirit.
