The Quality Improvement Awards support HRSA’s strategic goal to improve access to quality health care and services.
SAN DIEGO, Calif., Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) recently received the largest quality award in the nation from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), for their work in providing quality care to their patients.
FHCSD CEO, Fran Butler-Cohen said:
“We are honored to be recognized for our continued work on improving access to high-quality, value-based care to the communities we serve. Our recent visit from U.S. Surgeon General Adams highlighted the vital role that community health centers across the country play in addressing emerging health priorities and reducing health disparities to those most vulnerable.”
Each year, HHS’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) reviews quality data from all of the nearly 1,400 Federally-Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) across the country, rating each organization in six quality domains including: Improving Quality of Care, Increasing Access to Care, Improving Cost Efficient Care, Reducing Health Disparities, Advancing Health Information Technology and Patient-Centered Medical Home recognition.
The Quality Improvement Awards support HRSA’s strategic goal to improve access to quality health care and services, and supports the HHS’ goal of promoting a value-based payment system by improving the quality, breadth of services, modernization, efficiency, and overall value of primary health care delivered by FQHCs.
Annually, FHCSD provides care to more than 210,000 unique patients—a third of the region’s low-income patients—through more than 935,000 encounters.
