Spain’s Javier Raya says he feels like “the luckiest person in the world.”
Alongside the May 23 image, the 25-year-old figure skater, who competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, wrote, “Many of you know, others can imagine by the pictures and others will be surprised, but I have to say that right now I feel like the luckiest person in the world! Thank you @nicholsondrew.”
According to the post, Raya’s boyfriend is Andrew Alan Nicholson, a Ph.D. candidate in neuroscience at Western University in Ontario, Canada.
Raya’s decision to open up about his sexuality publicly coincides with that of another Spanish athlete. Water polo player Victor Gutiérrez, who is preparing for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, came out as gay in a May 25 interview with the Spanish language publication, Shangay.
