Get ready small-town America, the drag queens have arrived.
In a new HBO series called We’re Here famous drag queens Shangela, Bob the Drag Queen, and Eureka embark on road trips across the nation in order to makeover contestants living in rural America.
The show has been compared to the 1995 cult classic To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar.
Whereas Vida, Noxeema and Chi-Chi traveled in a pink Cadillac convertible in that movie, this crew will get personal themed vehicles according to EW: "Eureka in an elephant, Shangela in a pink van with a bow on top, and Bob in a giant purse on wheels."
HBO’s executive vice president of programming, Nina Rosenstein says the show will allow people to experience drag and “showcase the transformative power of the art form.”
Shangela hyped up the concept on her social media page recently, writing, "[We’re] empowering local communities with the magic of drag! It’s Emotional. Theatrical. Oh, it’s gonna be a SHOW! Never give up on your dreams y’all. And don’t be afraid to WERQ HARD for what u want! HALLELOO!”
The trio of drag performers will also act as consultants on the series.
We’re Here premieres onThursday, April 23 on HBO.
