It's a battle of the bar queens! Check back each day leading up to the big event for profiles of this year's contestants.
The ever popular Tantrums & Tiaras: Battle of the Bar Queens is just 11 days away, scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020 at the Observatory North Park. Audience members can expect over the top drag fun while raising funds for the programs and services of the San Diego LGBT Community Center.
The premise of Tantrums & Tiaras is simple: 6 Hillcrest bars volunteer one representative who will compete for the crown! This event is not what you would see in a traditional “drag” show. Tantrums & Tiaras is a full-scale stage production. The magic of Tantrums & Tiaras is watching some of San Diego’s finest bar personalities transform into drag divas for the first time! Contestants will strut the stage in swimwear, evening gowns and perform during the talent section. The event is considered to be not only a “FUN”RAISER, but also a camp pageant show that brings the San Diego community to raise money for The Center.
The Center is one of the largest and most vibrant LGBT community centers in the nation and has twin goals of promoting LGBT health/wellness and human rights. The organization provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBT community, including men, women, youth, seniors, transgender and non-binary individuals, families, LGBT Latino community members and their families, and those living with HIV. Last year, The Center provided more than 82,000 direct service visits to San Diego community members, and through its events, activities and advocacy, touched the lives of thousands more.
This year's contestants, and the bars they represent, are:
-Richard Trinidad, insideOUT
-Patrick Holihan, Urban Mo's Bar & Grill
-Paul Zaldivar, Flicks
-Lawrence Brown, Baja Betty's
-Erik Benson, #1 Fifth Avenue
-Andres Valdes, Rich's San Diego
