Live from New York, Television herstory is made!
Mainstream gets the main queen as Entertainment Weekly announces RuPaul Charles will take to the soundstage at Rockefeller Plaza in New York to host Saturday Night Live.
With the pop culture drag icon having won four Emmys in the past three years for his reality series RuPaul's Drag Race and getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame it's a wonder why the Peacock network has never offered up the coveted Saturday night emcee spot to him before.
The star is headlining the sketch comedy show with musical guest Justin Bieber on February 8.
Mama Ru is no stranger to classic television either, he often exudes savant intelligence when it comes to vintage TV trivia. And since SNL has been on the air for 45 years you can't get much more classic than that.
Netflix has also embraced the drag superstar with an exclusive series titled "AJ and the Queen," which is now playing on the streaming service giant.
Although Ru has appeared on SNL before -- in 1993 as his glamazon alter ego -- this will be the first time he gets the show to himself.
RuPaul’s episode of Saturday Night Live premieres on NBC on February 8.
