Mercury would have been 72 today.
Marc Martel is a YouTube sensation who might cause you to do a double-take with his uncanny resemblance to Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. Martel would definitely give you pause once you hear him cover one of the legendary artist's songs. Today (Sept. 5) is Mercury's 72nd birthday, the "Bohemian Rhapsody" singer passed away in November 1991.
But Martel keeps the artist's memory alive with his songs which make it feel like Mercury never left.
In fact, Martel's interpretation is so spot-on he started his own tribute show called The Ultimate Queen Celebration which he takes all over the globe. Martel has ignited a solo career for himself working with some of the best producers in the industry.
Audiences will get to hear Martel in the upcoming Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, he lends his voice to the film starring Rami Malek which opens this November.
“They hired me to do some of the singing in the movie and give the audience an immersive experience and not be able to tell where the singing is coming from," said Martel to Noise11."It is to make the audience believe they are really watching Freddie Mercury sing. I got to go to Abbey Road for a few weeks and do some recording there. It was the first time for me to see behind the curtain in the music industry. It was really fascinating fun and a very memorable experience."
Martel is taking The Ultimate Queen Celebration on the road throughout 2018 and 2019 with stops in cities across the United States.
