The designer was most known for her handbags.
Fashion designer Kate Spade, known for her colorful handbags has died at the age of 55 according to the Hollywood Reporter. It’s reported that Spade died by suicide in her New York apartment.
She was found by some of her staff members at about 10 am Tuesday morning along with a note. It’s not clear as to how long Spade’s body was there before she was found.
Officials who spoke to the Associated Press under anonymity say the designer died by hanging; a red scarf was discovered attached to a doorknob.
In the 90’s Spade made a name for herself in the fashion world especially accessories after she couldn’t find a handbag she liked. She created her own and at the last minute decided to place the label on the outside of the purse, that decision became her signature mark.
She quickly rose among the ranks of the fashion industry earning the respect of others and rapidly growing her brand into a household name.
In 2017 she left her company, Coach bought it for $2.4 billion and changed the name to Tapestry Inc.
President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, Steven Kolb, upon hearing the news of Spade’s death said, "The CFDA is devastated to hear the news of our friend, colleague and CFDA member Kate Spade's tragic passing."
She is survived by her husband and daughter.
