Only a few queens remain as Drag Race 10 gets Cher-ious.
This past week RuPaul's Drag Race had some people screaming "snap out of it!" as the contestants gave their best impressions of musical icon Cher for the Cher: The Unauthorized Rusical maxi challenge.
It was a tough go for some because not only did they have to nail Cher's various looks through the decades they also had to sing like her live. It seemed the only person who got it right all the way around was the one who appeared the most nervous backstage, Kameron Michaels.
But before all that, Ru and the queens hit it off in the mini challenge, a stage slap homage to the Moonstruck star who in the film must ground a bewitched Nicolas Cage into reality with an open hand across the face.
After the entertaining, but sometimes awkward Rusical stage show, the runway category was "Gliteriffic," which everyone seemed to nail including a shimmering The Vixen who created an abstract dress beaming with sparkles embedded in primary-colored shapes. Sadly, the stunning gown was not enough to save her from the bottom two and she faced off against Asia O'Hara who was ordered to shantay while The Vixen was sent sashay-ing away.
The Vixen spoke to San Diego Gay and Lesbian News about the show and where she stands with the outspoken Eureka.
San Diego Gay and Lesbian News: How does it feel to be a part of the historic Drag Race season 10?
The Vixen: I’m very proud. It’s an honor.
I love your drag name. Where did you come up with it?
I love looking at pin-up models for inspiration. They are most often referred to as vixens, so I decided to make The Vixen my name.
Who were you most surprised to see coming into the Werk Room this year?
I was very surprised to see Miz Cracker and Aquaria because I didn’t know they were two separate people, ha.
Cher is a tough celebrity to imitate, then you had to sing live. If you could do it over, what would you change?
If I had to do it over, I would have ditched the wig that was provided and would have put on a more Cher-esque wig so I could do more of the Cher-isms.
What is your relationship like with Eureka now? Could she ever be your best friend?
I don’t think we’ll ever be best friends, but we get along as long as it’s not for long periods of time.
Do you have a boyfriend?
Yes! I have a partner of two years, almost three.
What criticism from the judges do you not agree with? What do you agree with?
I agree with all the positive critiques that the judges gave me!
Of all the queens this year, who makes you gag the most?
That lip sync challenge was fun, you were fierce, do you think you were sent home because of that performance or something else?
I was very curious to see how Asia could have beat me in a lip-sync, but I believe that it was more so my time to go.
What are you working on now?
Well, hopefully I’ll be doing a big long tour! I’ve been writing music my whole life so I’m planning on putting out a project soon. When the time is right I’ll be putting out a very nice project.
When can we see you in San Diego?
Whenever I’m paid!
Everyone has a phrase when they first enter the Werk Room, what would be your phrase leaving it?
“I guess I’ll just run for president!”
