This comedy road trip series will star RuPaul.
For those of you who are wondering what writer Michael Patrick King's next project will be after the cancellation of "2 Broke Girls" the answer lies in Netflix. That's right, the streaming giant is bringing the Sex and the City and The Comeback writer on board for a new series starring RuPaul Charles called "AJ and The Queen."
The Netflix insider Twitter page "See What's Next" announced the collaboration this afternoon in a video tweet, saying, "Hold on to your wigs! RuPaul will star in “AJ And The Queen,” a new Netflix comedy series, created by RuPaul and Michael Patrick King."
King's MPK Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television will create the 10 episode series which will have an hour runtime.
RuPaul will take the starring role with King as showrunner. The pair will work together as writers.
Here's the official synopsis from Netflix:
RuPaul stars as Ruby Red, a bigger-than-life but down-on-her-luck drag queen who travels across America from club to club in a rundown 1990’s R/V with her unlikely sidekick AJ, a recently orphaned, tough-talking, scrappy 11-year-old stowaway.
As these two misfits, one tall, one small, travel from city to city, Ruby’s message of love and acceptance winds up touching people and changing their lives for the better. Oh, and RuPaul performs a killer musical number in every drag club.
No word yet on when exactly the show will air.
