This year RuPaul’s Drag Race reached a milestone most series fail to accomplish, and that is to have lasted 10 seasons. And each year seems to be gaining even more viewers than the last.

So, to be a contestant on this historic moment in television history is something to be proud of. Still, no one wants to be the first queen on the chopping block, or worse sent home.

Unfortunately, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo had to endure both, and sashayed away last week on the premiere.

She talked to San Diego Gay and Lesbian News just after being eliminated:

SDGLN: How does it feel to be a part of the Drag Race special "AnnivHERsary?"

Vanessa: It’s truly a blessing to be able to on the tenth season.

Who were you most surprised to see coming into the Werk Room?

I have to say, I was surprised to see Eureka. I thought her leg was still broken!

What difficulty did you have with the Maxi challenge?

I came from the ballroom scene, so that shit was so much fun!

What criticism from the judges do you not agree with? What do you agree with?

Well, I didn’t really get that much bad critiques other than my silhouette. The one positive critique I like the best is that I was told they like my personality and that I was quirky. I don’t really remember the negative ones.

How did it feel to meet Xtina?

It was amazing! I’m a big fan of hers, so being able to meet her in person felt like everything came full circle for me.

Of all the queens this year, who makes you gag the most?

Blair makes me gag the most because she’s so f***ing pretty. Every time I see her I’m like, ‘is this bitch real?’

What are you working on now?

Right now I’m working on music, I have my merch on vanessavanjie.com, I’m working on my look for Drag Con, and working on a bunch of stuff for my social media.

Are you coming to San Diego soon?

Yes! I’m coming there very soon, and I’m excited!

Thirteen contestants remain, including San Diego regular Mayhem Miller. RuPaul's Drag Race season 10 airs on VH1 every Thursday at 8/7C.
