Here's what Jinx Mirage is doing in the community this week.
It's getting to look a lot like Christmas, or whichever holiday you celebrate in December. This week social columnist Jinx Mirage is getting you ready for the yuletide merriment from everywhere in the community.
"What’s up San Diego, it’s your Hillcrest Socialite Jinx Mirage. And this weekend we are bringing in the holiday cheer and kicking off our favorite time of year with some good ol' holiday fun. So sit back, grab some eggnog and let’s get merry."
Stepping Stone Holiday Decorating
First, one of San Diego's most respected LGBT recovery organizations is getting festive this week. Jinx says to come out and help them trim everything from tree to ceiling.
"If you love Christmas decorations, which we know most gays do," says Jinx, "then come out for Deck the Halls at Stepping Stone." This non-profit drug and alcohol recovery agency has been helping the LGBT community since 1976. "Have a ball and a few laughs while making it into a beautiful winter wonderland for the community."
The Weekly Gathering
What better way to bring in the new month than high atop San Diego as SDPIX Presents Top of the Bay at the Porto Vista Hotel. This has become the weekly go-to social event with music, cocktails, and friends. "It's the premier hotel rooftop party in San Diego," says Jinx. "It's a great place to hang out and meet some people."
This Friday, December 1, Delta Work returns to Divas at Rich's, "We will also be celebrating producer Scott Parman's birthday," says Jinx. "They will also be having the annual blankets and socks drive for shelters and the homeless. So come out for the amazing fabulous Delta Work and give to a great cause. We'll see you there."
It's a Parade!
"Now who doesn't love a holiday parade?: Jinx asks. "This Saturday, December 2, North Park Toyland Parade and festival will happen in the historic neighborhood of North Park." The parade will glide down University Avenue between Utah and Iowa Streets. This cheerful parade will feel like a winter wonderland, with marching bands, dance groups vintage cars and more.
"I love me a good holiday parade. Come through North Park," Jinx says. "I wil definitely be attending this and you should too. Bring down kids, friends, family co-workers and significant others for some good old clean holiday fun!"
Martinis Above Fourth
"Okay Martinis, you better come through!" The popular performance venue has a few events going on this week, the first is on Monday, December 4, with the Annual Charity Wreath Auction at Martinis Above Fourth. 'This is absolutely fabulous--I love things like this. You get to buy a wreath for your home which you don't have to do yourself, and you get to give back to your community. Anyone who is looking for a fabulous wreath for their door needs to make their way to Martinis Above Fourth from 6 pm to 9 pm."
Then on Tuesday catch Jackie Beat: A Gay in a Manger at Martinis Above Fourth. "If you don't know who Jackie Beat it is, definitely take the time to Google her," says Jinx. "She is coming back to San Diego y'all!"
Jinx says to get your tickets because this is one holiday show that will have you "dying on the floor laughing."
Ugly Sweaters are for First Tuesdays in December.
The first-Tuesday in December tradition; YPC Holiday Party and Ugly Sweater Contest at Babycakes is back.
There are going to be some great prizes and bragging rights. So hunt down the most horrendous holiday sweater you can find or make one yourself and get to Babycakes.
A Grand Performance is Back at Martinis
That handsome crooner from Chicago is back. Steve Grand in All-American Boy at Martinis Above Fourth is taking to the stage to perform some of his favorites, your favorites, and a few new things on both Wednesday, December 6 and Thursday, December 7.
This Pursuit Isn't Trivial
San Diego's legendary John Lockhart hosts an open Team Trivia game and everyone is welcome to join in at Guys, Games & Grub at the LGBT Community Center. There are hundreds of board games available to choose from, or you can bring your own!
Last week Jinx sat down with special guest Luciana for "Euphoria" at Rich's. Here is that interview and some closing thoughts.
Jinx: This is Jinx Mirage from SDGLN sitting down with the absolutely amazing Ms.Luciana, how are you doing darling?
Luciana: I’m in love with you, and I want that lipstick on my lips ASAP, ROCKY!!!
Jinx: Haha, So tell us what’s new with you?
Luciana: You know I’m doing lots of stuff, writing a lot of songs. Tonight we are performing here at Rich’s with the wonderful Nytrix and we have a track coming out with him called “Trouble” and that’s coming out in February, and I’m so excited 'cause the song makes me so happy. And then another track with Will Sparks called “Bad Connection” in December. And then another track we just finished with Tiesto, but don’t know when that’s coming out. It’s all going it’s all popping
Jinx: So things are starting to line up then?
Luciana: yeah it’s weird that all things seem to be lining up and correlating.
Jinx: Now this is my second time seeing you at Rich’s, what are you most excited about this time?
Luciana: Well, you know what. I’m not excited I can’t drink really because I have a session in the morning.
Jinx: Oh No!!!!!!
Luciana: but the one thing I love about Rich’s you know how to party, you know we have the dancers on stage, doing shots in the back with everyone. I’m out before and after the gig dancing with everyone, not just the dancers. This crowd is amazing, and for me, it feels like I’m coming home because I’ve been here a few times before. I love it!
Jinx: Got you. Now, my last question: What has been your favorite performance, venue and/or country you have performed in?
Luciana: I got to say one thing, it’s a gig I’ll always remember, I think I got paid 20£. When I first started out, there were like five people in the audience. And I remember thinking I’m gonna be really good and sing my heart out for like an hour. That was one of my best gigs. I mean I’ve obviously done some amazing gigs like New Year’s Eve Sydney Harbor with all the fireworks!
Jinx: That is so amazing and insane
Luciana: but that gig will always stand out and it makes you remember who you are.
Jinx: Thank you so much for your time
Luciana: Thank you
Jinx: Again this is Jinx Mirage with SDPIX/SDGLN with the amazing Luciana I’m totally fangirling!
Luciana: And I’m coming to see you perform
That’s it for me this week, hope you all enjoyed this column and have an awesome weekend.
