The reality star was there to receive an award for her trans advocacy.
Caitlyn Jenner suffered some verbal abuse at her appearance at the British LGBT Awards on Friday according to The Huffington Post.
Jenner was recipient of the “Loud and Proud” award for her work within the transgender community.
But reports say the reality star was the target of transphobic verbal abuse from the paparazzi as she exited the building.
“One of them shouted ‘where’s your dong, fella’ and then they all started punching each other because they were so desperate for a photo,” Cameron Fallow, a witness at the show said.
The photographers also mocked Jenner as she walked through their ranks.
“Someone shouted to her, ‘Oi, Bruce, get your d*ck’ out,” said another witness to The Sun Online. “Then someone else threw something at her. It was horrible.”
Jenner “looked terrified, the witness added.
Police say they are handling the incident as a hate crime according to LGBTQ Nation.
“Officers attended and spoke to one of the organizers who alleged that a photographer had verbally abused a woman and a man as they were leaving the event,” Scotland Yard said in a statement. “No arrests have been made. Enquiries are ongoing.”
The British LGBT Awards honors individuals and companies that are committed to making strides in the LGBT community: "We believe that those who go the extra mile to ensure equality, opportunity and fair treatment for all, regardless of sexuality deserve to be recognised."
