The groundbreaking sitcom followed the trials and tribulations of the blue-collar Connor family.
The blue-collar family that defined the 90’s, The Connors, are reportedly making a comeback.
Deadline reports the hit show “Roseanne” along with its original cast will return to television for a limited 8-episode arc.
Currently working out the venue, it is said that original cast members: Roseanne Barr, John Goodman and Sara Gilbert will once again reprise their roles as Roseanne, Dan and Darlene respectively.
“Roseanne” ran on ABC from 1988 to 1997 only losing half its audience in the latter years due to some storylines that abandoned the real-life struggles of a working family, instead focusing on aspects of their lives that its star character may have made up in her head.
This may also solve the problem of Dan’s death and John Goodman’s return.
Recently popular sitcoms and comedies have made a resurgence into the streaming market. Netflix reunited the Gilmore Girls, Full House and re-booted “One Day at a Time” with a Latin twist.
NBC has also green lit the confirmed then not-confirmed, then conformed again sitcom “Will and Grace.”
The Emmy-winning “Roseanne” was groundbreaking in the way Norman Lear sitcoms dealt with controversial issues of the 70’s. The anti-Brady matriarch tackled everything from homosexuality, birth control and teenage drinking in a comical but heartfelt way.
Deadline reports that the only thing producers are working on is where exactly to put the show’s return.
Netflix and mother ship ABC are putting their hats in the ring.
Both John Goodman and Sara Gilbert have said they would love to see a return of the series. Goodman, on the Gilbert hosted and produced “The Talk,” seemed more than enthusiastic at the prospect of bringing the Conners together once again.
“Oh, hell yes … if we could get everyone together,” he told co-host Julie Chen. “The Big R [Barr] and I did a pilot about five years ago that didn’t go anywhere … but we were very happy to work together.”
Gilbert, when asked about whether or not she would like to see it happen said, “I would,” adding, “Your only fear is you don’t want to do a bad version, because you don’t want to damage what’s been done.”
No word on which Becky will make an appearance, but knowing the wit of the show, there will probably at least a cameo from one or the other.
