Comedy, singing and dancing: Martinis is making February a big little month to remember.
February is going to be an exciting month at Martinis Above Fourth. From the best in comedy, to the most influential in music and theater, it’s going to be a month of artistic romance.
First up, is the incomparable Vickie Shaw on Thursday February 2, and her all-out assault on your funny bone. This renown comedian tackles every topic from being a gay mom and family, to getting older and what to expect from the doctor with each annual visit.
Her fans have come to love her honest approach to comedy and can easily relate to her hilarious stories, that is if they get a chance to breathe in-between jokes.
Next, it’s the critically acclaimed San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus on Thursday, February 9, at 8 pm. This symphonic ensemble is giving attendees a treat with a special preview of their upcoming “Broadway Now” show as well as singing some of their greatest hits from the Balboa Theatre.
Making a special guest appearance are the Mood Swings and their special brand of unique entertainment. All proceeds from this show will benefit SDMGC’s musical mission of community outreach. http://www.ma4sd.com/service/mood-swings/
Keeping with the musical theme, Broadway’s David Burnham will return to Martinis Above Fourth on Valentine’s Day. This special night of performances is a great way to treat someone you love to a night out on the town with a special meal and an enchanted evening of heartwarming musical entertainment.
Burnham has just finished his 18-month Vegas engagement called “Showstoppers” and is widely known for his role as Fiyero in the musical “Wicked.” He also received the prestigious “Helen Hayes Award” for Best Actor as well as the Best Actor “Garland Award” for his portrayal of Fabrizio in the national tour of “The Light In The Piazza.”
It's the perfect night to give that special someone in your life the gift of romance with great music and an elegant meal. Prix fixe and a la carte options available.
On Thursday February 16, Jai Rodriguez returns for one night to Martinis Above Fourth. This popular entertainer sold out his show the last time he was there and it looks like this time may be no different.
Rodriguez is bringing his new cabaret show “As Seen on TV’ to the Martinis’ stage with music, storytelling and hilarious anecdotes on being in showbiz for nearly 20 years.
As a powerful vocalist Rodriguez, has shared the stage with Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle, Brian McKnight, Taylor Dayne and Michelle Williams. Lady Gaga even gave him a cameo in the video “Telephone,” featuring Beyoncé.
Rodriguez was a reality show groundbreaker with his “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” in the 90’s. He also starred in last year’s gay thriller “Kiss Me, Kill Me,” a noire-style murder mystery set in the eclectic lifestyle of Southern California’s West Hollywood.
And rounding out the month, heading into March, the hilarious Coco Peru will get the tea set ready for conversations with the audience in “The Taming of the Tension."
Coco is inviting San Diegan’s to her “place” at Martinis for an intimate night of gab. It seems she’s been a little tense lately and the only way to relieve some of that stress is treat the audience to some of her favorite stories, songs and gossip.
No stranger to getting up close and personal with iconic LGBT celebrities, Coco hosts a series of live shows at Renberg Theater in Los Angeles called “Conversations With Coco.”
Her “guests” have included Liza Minnelli, Jane Fonda, Bea Arthur, Lily Tomlin, Karen Black, Lainie Kazan, Lesley Ann Warren, and drag legend Mr. Charles Busch.
You don’t want to ditch this dish with the legendary Coco Peru.
As you can see, Martinis Above Fourth is cramming the year’s shortest month with plenty of A-List entertainment. And as always the stars come out in San Diego.
