Many celebrities sent their condolences after hearing of his death.
Matt Irwin, 36, a popular gay celebrity photographer has died by suicide reports Gay Star News.
The report claims that Irwin had just broken up with his boyfriend which sent him into a deep depression.
He took a deadly dose of the drug GHB according to the coroner, and was found in his apartment in Hackney by three of his friends who were concerned about his well-being.
One of the friends, Samantha Teasdale said they arrived at his flat and the front door was unlocked. After entering they discovered Irwin inside.
Paramedics were called, but the artist was pronounced dead according to the Evening Standard.
Coroner Jacqueline Devonish says there was an open letter on Irwin’s laptop which gave clues to his state-of-mind.
“He describes depression as brutal. He writes that, ‘as a guy you really can’t say you’re not coping.’ He couldn’t look at himself in the mirror.”
She officially recorded the verdict as suicide saying, “It is clear that he was depressed. He did however say in that note that he did wish he was dead.”
Irwin had a great career that included photographing stars such as Nicki Minaj, James Franco, Lady Gaga, and Reese Witherspoon to name a few.
He also did spreads for Elle UK, and multiple European editions of Vogue magazine.
Upon hearing of his death, many of his famous American and UK subjects took to Twitter sending their condolences.
