The young actor has always been out to friends and family, but now he's gone public
Arrow and Teen Wolf star Colton Haynes has officially come out as gay.
The star was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly and in it he discusses the Tumblr post by a fan earlier this year, about the 27-year-old’s “secret gay past.”
Haynes response at the time: “Was it a secret?” set off a feed-fury of speculation that he had just came out.
Although he is gay he says he wasn’t ready to make a public statement about his sexuality then, and that he was shocked by people’s reactions to his post.
“I should have made a comment or a statement, but I just wasn’t ready,” he told EW. “I didn’t feel like I owed anyone anything. I think in due time, everyone has to make those decisions when they’re ready, and I wasn’t yet. But I felt like I was letting people down by not coming forward with the rest of what I should have said.”
He also states in the article that the anxiety of getting by in Hollywood caused him mental stress and he went to rehab a few times.
“People want you to be that GQ image that you put out, but people don’t realize what it’s like to act 24 hours a day,” he said in the interview. “I’d go home and I was still acting. People who are so judgmental about those who are gay or different don’t realize that acting 24 hours a day is the most exhausting thing in the world.”
Haynes started playing Roy Harper on CW's "Arrow" in 2013, and before that played Jackson Whittmore in M-TV’s "Teen Wolf."
He will star in the movie Triumph releasing this year, according to IMDb, about a boy with cerebral palsy trying to get accepted to his high school wrestling team.
