SAN DIEGO, California -- In an effort to showcase the works of LGBT poets, writers and visual artists as well as the history that informs art by LGBT people of color, the Multicultural LGBT Literary Foundation will host "Expressions of Pride" on Friday, July 18 from 1-5 pm.
An official cultural event of the 40th anniversary celebration of San Diego Pride, the event will feature hundreds of titles by both well-known authors like James Baldwin, Gloria Anzaldúa, Audre Lorde, and Michael Nava and new favorites like Craig Womack, Malinda Lo, Charles Rice-González, and Ghalib Dhalla.
Some authors will be on hand for book signings, and artist Manuel A. Acevedo, whose work explores gay Latino masculinity, will be showing his original artwork and prints.
Teens and other readers will be able to view a huge selection of young adult fiction, while multicultural families with young children will be able to look through a collection of picture books.
Lambda Archives of San Diego will display a special historical exhibit from its Fiction Book Collection, illuminating some of the works that inspired some of today’s authors.
The free event is open to the public and will take place at the Diversionary Theatre Building, located at 4545 Park Blvd. in University Heights.
